Easy, Clear, Systematic Process with Everything Your District Needs!

Historically, there have been two models for MTSS teams. The single-team model involves a single team that comprehensively addresses two areas of student concerns, tackling academic and behavioral challenges. Other campuses will have two teams, one for academics and one for behavior.

As a reminder, the Texas Education Code mandates fifteen (15) possible plans for a student, such as retention, MTSS, attendance, truancy, Section 504, safety, homeless, transition plans, etc. Wouldn’t it be great if one committee either developed all the plans or coordinated them to ensure cohesive services across student challenges?

Texas School Procedures began reviewing our MTSS section, which was formerly located in the Student Support Section, in September 2024. We wanted to develop a hybrid process for more flexibility in examining the WHOLE child. All educators understand that when a child experiences difficulties and challenges in school, it is usually due to multiple reasons.

The TxSP’s NEW MTSS model is a hybrid system, allowing schools to blend both approaches—utilizing a core support team while engaging specialists or specialized committees as needed. This approach balances efficiency with expertise. Another benefit of this model is that if other committees create a plan, a copy of that plan is to be sent to the MTSS coordinator for consideration in MTSS meetings.

TxSP also provides links throughout the website for those mandated academic and non-academic plans required by the Texas Education Code.
